It’s late spring 1982 or ’83. The last years of high school have found me working a menial clean up job. Sweeping, mopping, putting things in the lost and found…
There is a drain outside at the back where I empty the mop bucket.
I back out of the door so I don’t catch the wheels on the threshold.
A feeling of warmth hits my back and shoulders, turning me around to a brilliant, giant sun, pretty much blinding me.
I keep looking but not because of the beauty or the warmth or because of the season we’ve waited for.
I “hear” a thought.
Maybe like Ebenezer Scrooge, it was a morsel of food that didn’t agree with me.
But I am certain of this thought.
“I am always with you. Even if you can’t see me or feel me, I am always with you.”
The second name the angels gave Jesus was Immanuel, meaning “God with us”.
After more than 30 years every time I see the sun bold and bright and in my eyes like that, this comes to my memory.
So if you’re looking around the web and see my fascination with light – especially the sun – this is why.
